So, what kind of music do you like?

“Like all smugly codified traditions, pop music begs to be dismantled, and Here Are The Facts You Requested cheerfully comply.”

Biology
While many groups burrow deeper into genres which seem to fracture music, Here Are The Facts You Requested  finds the best music is not in fractions, but fractals. They rise above styles to speak about music in its totality—the grand melting pop.

Comprised of happy noise generated by cello, turntables, drums, guitar and guitar synth, the music of Here Are The Facts You Requested is aggressively ecclectic.  Like Can, their composed songs appear as ephemeral islands of clarity amid sparkling exploratory improvisations. Like The Flaming Lips, The Beta Band, Cornelius, or Andy Warhol, they seek the psychedlic within the repetition and references of pop. Under these forces, genres collapse and cross-pollinate.

Samples rhyme with singers, Native American drummers jam withdrum machines. Studio pops, hums and hiss are sculpted into a rhythm track. A cowboy ballad is played against a soundtrack of rodeo sounds and industrial  noise. They work closely with many machines, adding the language of in your face digital edits to the speech of improvisation. They turn improvisation into composition using the computers—in effect, sampling themselves.

History
HATFYR was formed in Baltimore in 1991 and relocated to San Francisco in 1994, finding a home and an eager fan base for their beautiful, confusing music in the Burning Man arts community. They released an EP in 1995, Renshengfengwangjiang, which drew the attention of A&R folks like David Katz Nelson (Flaming Lips). To record their next album, the band built and opened their own professional recording and sound design studio, Abandon Studios.

The band's first full-length CD, Shocks+Struts, was released in late 1998 on their own Elevator Pop Gallery label in conjunction with Liberty Bloom Music. It is distributed in the US by City Hall Records. It was mixed at legendary Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA by Ben Conrad. The first single "1999", a Jeep-rattling post-apocalyptic trip-hop cover of Prince's pre-apocalyptic classic, has been gleefully embraced by college stations. Shocks+Struts made several college DJ's top ten list for the year and was put into high rotation

Their latest release FELT is "the group's twisted take on soul music" (SF Weekly) which "like the best pop music, is complex, odd, familiar and unfamiliar, embedded in pop tradition and utterly and thoroughly itself" (Aquarius Records). In 2003, the band toured major clubs in Spain, invited by the experimental European record label, Testing Ground.

The mission of Here Are The Facts You Requested is to reunite the brain and the booty in terms of pop music. You ought to be able to boogie while your synapses are firing.
